Dexa Scan
Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones become porous and are more likely to break. There are a number of risk factors for developing osteoporosis including age, gender, family history, frame size, tobacco use, low calcium intake, early menopause and the use of certain medications.
Women’s Care offers screening for osteoporosis using state-of-the-art Hologic Delphi-C DEXA equipment. Our staff is certified by the American College of Radiology and the International Society for Clinical Densitometry.
As part of the Osteoporosis Screening, patients are asked to complete a risk questionnaire that helps us determine the level of risk.
There are no other special preparations for your exam.
During your exam, you will be asked to remove your shoes, and lay down on the dexa exam table. The technician will pass the machine above your body. There is minimal radiation exposure during this procedure.
After the test, the technician will review the results with you. These test results will be forwarded to your provider, and you will be contacted either by mail or by phone regarding these results.
