Women’s Care ObGyn encourages all of its employees and patients to exercise their right to vote today! New York State polls close at 9pm. Make your voice heard!
Important issues to consider today include maternity care, contraception, and preexisting conditions. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) significantly broadened contraceptive coverage, so much so that highly effective Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs) are now very commonly used. Previously devices such as IUDs and Implants were too costly for many patients to afford. The removal of preexisting conditions has made it much easier for all people to get insurance and also to have assurance that they will be able to keep it in the future regardless of changes in health. Women’s Care ObGyn encourages you to evaluate each candidate’s stance on these important issues before voting.
In other news, November is a great time to get your flu shot! Many people think that the flu shot “gives them the flu.” We can assure you that this is NOT the case. However, when you get the flu shot your body is doing some hard work activating your immune system to be prepared for the flu, and sometimes this activation can FEEL a bit like a short and mild flu infection. Usually this lasts no more than 24 hours, and it is not the flu. Flu shots are important for everybody, but especially for pregnant women, children, and the elderly. We encourage everyone to get the flu shot every year. Research shows that even if you get the flu despite having had the flu shot, your illness will likely be shorter and more mild.
So hit the polls and then the pharmacy to get these two important tasks completed today!
